Thomas H. Shaffer, MSE, PhD, Professor of Pediatrics & Physiology attended Drexel University, earning his BS in Mechanical Engineering, 1968; MSE in Applied Mechanics, 1970; and PhD in Applied Mechanics. He continues as a professor of Pediatrics & Physiology at Temple University, in Philadelphia, and the University of Delaware. His primary focus has been the care of premature babies, early in gestation. Dr. Shaffer considers ‘liquid breathing’ or ‘controlled, liquid ventilation’, to be his greatest contribution to mankind.
